US Begins Troop Withdrawal from Base in Eastern Syria – Media

16 April

The United States has reportedly started withdrawing special forces from a military base near the Conoco gas field in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor province. The move marks a shift in American military presence in the region, according to Sky News Arabia.

A convoy carrying US troops departed from the base, located in the eastern part of the country, and headed toward Iraqi Kurdistan, where a major American military facility is stationed.

Between 2015 and 2018, the US established nine military bases and three outposts in Kurdish-controlled areas of Syria, including in Aleppo, Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, Hasakah and the strategic border area of al-Tanf near Iraq and Jordan. These installations hosted roughly 2,200 American troops, primarily tasked with supporting the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

The Conoco base was set up in 2017 and is located about 23 kilometers northwest of the al-Tanf region.
