The information spread on the social networks about the shoot-out on the Uzbek-Afghan border on Wednesday night is not consistent with reality, the foreign ministry of Uzbekistan said in a statement.
"Some social networks, with reference to the Afghan sources, have been disseminating reports on the alleged shooting at the Uzbek-Afghan border on the night of May 4, 2022, which resulted in the death of servicemen of the Border Troops of the State Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan. We hereby state that the disseminated information doesn't correspond to the reality," the statement posted on the website of the State Security Service of Uzbekistan reported.
The ministry added that the situation at the border remains calm and the security of the country's southern borders is implemented routinely and called on the media to refrain from publishing unverified information.
According to the Uzbekistan MFA, reports of shootings at the border were also denied in Afghanistan. Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the interim government of the Taliban (members of the banned Taliban movement in Russia), reportedly called these reports "false and unfounded".
