Vershinin and UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy Discuss Mission on Referendum in Western Sahara

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin and  UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy, Head of the UN Referendum Mission in Western Sahara Alexander Ivanko have discussed the mission's daily activities and the situation in its areas of operation.

 

"The meeting discussed in detail issues related to the daily activities of the mission, as well as the situation in its operation zone," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

 

According to the diplomatic department, the Russian side expressed unwavering support for the mission's activities, which play an important role in stabilizing the situation on the ground and creating conditions for a fair, long-term, and acceptable solution to the conflict based on relevant UN Security Council resolutions.

 

Detailed consultations were held in Moscow on May 23, the ministry added.
