Vershinin Discusses Iran Situation with Turkish Ambassador

28 January

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin discussed the evolving situation in Iran with the Turkish Ambassador to Moscow, Tanju Bilgiç.

"An exchange of views took place regarding the development of events in Syria, Yemen, and Libya, as well as the emerging situation around Iran. Initiatives to resolve the Ukrainian crisis were also touched upon," the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.

Furthermore, the parties "discussed in detail the current situation in the Middle East, with an emphasis on the issues of the Palestinian-Israeli settlement. This included international efforts to achieve a sustainable ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, ensure comprehensive humanitarian assistance, and the prospects for reviving the peace process on a universally recognized international legal basis."

Previously, US President Donald Trump expressed hope that Iranian representatives would come to the negotiating table and conclude a deal involving the renunciation of nuclear weapons. Otherwise, Trump threatened Tehran with an attack that would be significantly worse than the one in June 2025.
