Russia strongly condemns any calls for military strikes on Iran’s peaceful nuclear program facilities, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a briefing.
“The Russian side firmly rejects any calls for military action aimed at resolving misunderstandings or disputes related to Iran’s peaceful nuclear activities,” she stated.
Zakharova highlighted that Russia has repeatedly warned against military adventurism, which threatens stability and security in the Middle East.
“It is unacceptable for military strikes against nuclear sites—those under IAEA safeguards—to become a routine in international practice. Such attacks, which carry catastrophic risks, cannot be ignored,” she emphasized.
The diplomat also expressed concern over recurring threats to launch new missile and bomb attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities. “What adds cynicism to these threats is that they come under the guise of concern for nuclear non-proliferation,” Zakharova remarked. She reiterated that Iran does not possess nuclear weapons nor is it developing any, a fact repeatedly confirmed by Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency.
“In other words, biased judgments rooted in anti-Iranian sentiment, lacking solid technical and objective evidence as well as credible arguments, are being used as justification for renewed aggression,” she added.
Zakharova called for a fundamentally different approach amid the fragile ceasefire following the escalation in July. “The world has seen where aggressive efforts to resolve the so-called Iranian issue once and for all lead. It is a terrible phrase, indeed,” she said, referring to calls for fully restoring IAEA inspections in Iran. “Ironically, these demands come loudest from those who just yesterday were damaging Iran, endangering inspectors’ lives, and destroying monitoring equipment.”
She stressed that sustainable peace and a halt to new strikes are essential prerequisites for normalizing cooperation between Tehran and the IAEA.
“Our position is that at this historic juncture, Western opponents must abandon selfish ambitions and finally channel their energy toward earnest negotiation efforts based on international law, which remove unfounded suspicions and prejudices about Iran’s peaceful nuclear program while duly respecting Iran’s legitimate interests under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty,” Zakharova concluded.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump stated that if Iran restarts its nuclear program, the United States would swiftly destroy it.
