Zhaparov Claims Kyrgyz Diplomatic Service is 3,000 Years Old

22 October

President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Zhaparov, declared that the Kyrgyz people established a diplomatic service 3,000 years ago. He made this statement during a ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Zhaparov cited the research of renowned Chinese historian Yu Taishan, who confirmed the existence of a Kyrgyz state as early as the 10th century BC. “This means that the diplomatic service of our people dates back 3,000 years,” he said.

He also highlighted the historical significance of Kyrgyz diplomacy, noting that Kyrgyz states once actively cooperated with neighboring countries, including the great Chinese empire. As an example, Zhaparov shared a historical fact: “Between 643 and 747 AD, 11 Kyrgyz embassies were registered in China.”

According to Zhaparov, the history of Kyrgyz diplomacy is closely intertwined with the broader history of the Kyrgyz people. “In those ancient times, as a distinct people, we not only established relations with neighboring tribes but also engaged with great empires, forming military-political alliances and signing agreements with other states,” he stated.

He emphasized that in times of danger to statehood, the Kyrgyz people skillfully employed diplomatic means, relying on their national values to preserve their freedom, sovereignty, and potential for development. “History is full of such examples,” Zhaparov said confidently.

Kyrgyz diplomacy, he asserted, evolved from the “centuries-old history and wisdom” of the Kyrgyz people. “Our farsighted ancestors employed various diplomatic methods, such as forging alliances or coalitions, reaching compromises, coexisting peacefully with neighbors, and engaging in flexible, mutually beneficial cooperation. These approaches are still widely used in modern diplomacy,” the president concluded.
