Kremlin hopes that in 2021 the Russian economy will not experience such a decline as the current one

Russia will not be able to completely free itself from the negative impact of the global crisis but the authorities expect that in 2021 it will be possible to prevent such a decline in the national economy as in the current one, press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

As noted in an analytical commentary published on Tuesday by the agency "National credit ratings", the transition in Russia to a strategy to reduce the budget deficit in 2021 may lead to delayed recovery of the national economy. Commenting on the data, the Kremlin representative noted that the Russian government had different forecasts.

"Of course, unfortunately, we will not be able to free ourselves from the negative impact of the global crisis but overall there are expectations that next year's decline will not be the same as this one," Peskov said. "Although this [year], as a matter of fact, we managed to minimize it, and in general we passed [the pandemic] with the least negative effect compared to a number of other countries".

According to him, "the current level of [public] debt and reserves is just one of the factors that ensure macroeconomic stability".
