Matviyenko Describes Adoption of Russian Constitution 30 Years Ago as a Momentous Event

The adoption of the Constitution of the Russian Federation on December 12, 1993, marked a significant milestone in Russian history, serving as a cornerstone for the preservation and development of the country. In her address on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Constitution's adoption, Chairman of the Federation Council (FC) Valentina Matviyenko highlighted its pivotal role in providing a stable foundation for the integrity and progress of Russia.

 

"Thirty years ago, a momentous event occurred in our national history—the adoption of the Constitution of the Russian Federation through a popular vote. This constitution enshrines the rights and freedoms of every individual, establishing the fundamental principles of our country's federal structure," stated the speaker of the FC.

 

According to her, adhering to the norms of the fundamental law has enabled the establishment of a modern political system and the preservation of Russia's integrity. "The Constitution of the Russian Federation has served as a solid foundation for shaping a modern political system, establishing a new legal framework, and safeguarding the integrity of Russia, ensuring its ongoing development," emphasized Matviyenko.

 

She emphasized that the Federation Council actively contributed to the significant transformations of previous years. "We understand the immense responsibility each of us holds for future generations, recognizing the importance of preserving national traditions, spiritual and moral values, as well as our rich cultural and natural heritage," stated the speaker of the Federation Council.
