Putin demands Ministry of Internal Affairs to strictly suppress the propaganda of nationalism and xenophobia

Russian President Vladimir Putin demanded that the Interior Ministry severely suppress propaganda of nationalism and xenophobia and bring provocateurs to justice.

"The most serious attention should be paid to the fight against extremism. I ask to strictly suppress the propaganda of nationalism, xenophobia, religious hatred and violence, to bring to justice provocateurs who themselves run away, hide, and if they are caught by the hand - repent, but people are pushed to the path of crime," he said on Wednesday at an expanded meeting of the Interior Ministry board.

The President recalled that earlier at a similar meeting of the board of the Federal Security Service he had noted the important tasks of ensuring public order and safety of citizens in preparation for the upcoming elections to the State Duma.

"The constitutional right of the people of Russia to freely elect their representatives must be guaranteed and reliably protected," said the head of state.

Situation in the field of migration

Questions of admission of foreign workers in Russia should be decided in accordance with the real needs of the economy and the protection of the interests of Russian citizens in the labor market, said Putin.

He called the theme of migration policy sensitive to the society and economy. "The situation in this area has become more orderly and more transparent and the efficiency of the legislative regulation has increased," Putin said, noting, however, that "the risks are still there, including the penetration of crime into the environment of migrant workers".

The President urged the Interior Ministry to continue a balanced and responsible approach to the admission of foreign workers to Russia and "to focus on the real needs of the domestic economy" while protecting the interests of Russian citizens in the labor market.

"All activities of migrant workers should be in strict accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation and the generally accepted international standards",  Putin said. Violators among both workers and employers "should be deservedly penalized," the President stressed.
