Putin: Heroic Deeds for Russia's Freedom and Future Inspire Pride and Gratitude

22 May

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the heroic deeds of the country's defenders, carried out in the name of freedom and a glorious future for the homeland, inspire a sense of pride and gratitude.

“Today we honor outstanding citizens. This is a testament to public recognition of your talent and achievements in work and creativity. The heroic deeds in the name of Russia’s freedom, independence, and future fill us with pride and gratitude,” the president said during a state awards ceremony at the Kremlin.

He recalled that just recently, the nation commemorated the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, and the entire jubilee year is dedicated to the defenders of the Fatherland—the heroic generation of veterans who defeated Nazism, overcame tremendous hardships, and demonstrated extraordinary strength of spirit.

“This celebration is also dedicated to their noble successors, who are bravely fulfilling their duty on the most difficult and critical fronts—to all those who courageously defend our land, and fight for the lives of soldiers and civilians,” Putin emphasized.

Among those being honored, he noted, are Russian Defense Ministry service member Lyudmila Vyacheslavovna Bolilaya and chief physician of a district hospital in the Kherson region, Vladimir Ivanovich Kharlan. Today, they will be awarded Gold Star medals as Heroes of Russia.
