Putin: Russia Is Diverse, Yet a Common Homeland for All

29 May

Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized the unity of the nation despite its diversity during a videoconference with large families recently honored with state awards.

“Russia is vast and diverse, but it is a common homeland for all,” Putin said during the meeting, which included families from across the country.

The president’s remarks came in response to a drawing presented by Rumisa, the only daughter in the large Khamkhoev family. Her artwork depicted a traditional Vainakh tower from the North Caucasus region alongside one of the Kremlin towers in Moscow.

“Excellent work, well done,” Putin praised. “The symbols are powerful. The ancestral towers of the Caucasus reflect the region’s history, the traditions of its peoples and families. And next to them — a Kremlin tower. All of this on one canvas.”

“You have united — perhaps knowingly, perhaps not — the country. Russia is so different, yet one large homeland for all,” he added. “You’ve shown both your small homeland and our shared one. That’s wonderful. Thank you — and thanks to your parents.”
