Putin: Shared History Should Serve as a Basis for International Cooperation

17 September

Shared pages of history must serve as a foundation for successful humanitarian cooperation and stronger ties between peoples, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in his greetings to participants of the 2nd International Scientific and Practical Conference “Altai – the Birthplace of Turkic Nations: On the Origins of Turkic Civilisation,” which was read aloud by presidential aide Vladimir Medinsky.

“This conference, its opening and constructive discussions are dedicated to addressing a wide range of scholarly issues in the fields of Turkology and Altaistics, as well as questions related to the origins of other peoples of Eurasia. After all, this continent is rightfully regarded as the cradle of many ancient civilisations,” the message said.

Putin also expressed confidence that shared history, as well as the military and labor achievements of ancestors, should serve as a solid foundation for developing interregional and international humanitarian cooperation, strengthening friendship, and fostering mutual understanding.

The 2nd International Scientific and Practical Conference “Altai – the Birthplace of Turkic Nations: On the Origins of Turkic Civilisation” is being held in Manzherok, Altai Republic. The event includes a series of scholarly discussions on the history of Turkic peoples, with one of the topics focusing on joint efforts to study and preserve their shared cultural and historical heritage.

The conference is organized by the Russian Military-Historical Society, the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Knowledge Society, and the Russian Historical Society, with the support of the Government of the Altai Republic.
