The reunification of Donbas and Novorossiya with Russia marked a pivotal moment, one that these regions had been moving toward for years, overcoming numerous trials along the way. In a video address celebrating the anniversary of this event, Russian President Vladimir Putin highlighted the courage of the residents who resisted the neo-Nazi regime in Kiev and expressed his gratitude to Russians actively involved in the rebuilding of the liberated territories.
“I warmly congratulate all citizens of our country on this truly historic event,” Putin said. “We have come a long way, through years of hardship and difficult trials. We knew the unbearable conditions under which Donbas lived for eight long years—enduring constant shelling and blockades, and the oppression suffered by the people of Novorossiya.”
“They stood up against the armed coup in Kiev and resisted the neo-Nazi dictatorship, which sought to tear them away from their historical homeland, from Russia,” the president emphasized.
“Enterprises are being actively restored in the liberated territories, new homes, hospitals, schools, and kindergartens are being built. All Russian regions are contributing to this work,” Putin noted. “Representatives of both large and small businesses are playing a significant role. Volunteers, public and religious organizations, as well as parliamentary parties, are making a tremendous contribution.”
“I thank all citizens of the country for their unity and patriotic spirit,” the president continued. “The truth is on our side! All the goals we have set will be achieved!” Putin concluded.
