Putin to Communicate with Children on Knowledge Day and Participate in School Openings

01 September 2023

On Knowledge Day, Russian President Vladimir Putin will host an open lesson titled "Talking about Important Things." This lesson will be attended by 30 schoolchildren who have excelled in their studies and achieved success in international Olympiads and competitions.

Furthermore, as previously announced by the Kremlin press service, the president will partake in the inauguration of new educational institutions in five regions and, in collaboration with Kyrgyzstan President Sadyr Zhaparov, will initiate the construction of three schools in Kyrgyzstan offering education in the Russian language.

In line with tradition, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin will also join in the Knowledge Day festivities. According to the government's press service, he will visit a Moscow school alongside Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin to extend his congratulations to students at the start of the new school year.

Communicating with schoolchildren

Last year, on September 1, during a working trip to Kaliningrad, President Putin also conducted a "Talking about Important Things." During the meeting, the president emphasized Russia's active development and the need for decisive and careful actions to strengthen the country both internally and on the global stage. He highlighted the importance of society's support for the special military operation (SMO) fighters, including young people.

The conversation also touched on various worldly topics. Putin discussed how responsibilities in a child's life mark their first steps into adulthood and stressed the significance of treating the elderly with attentiveness and kindness. He emphasized the necessity of developing infrastructure to integrate people with disabilities into the general environment. Additionally, the Russian president expressed his contentment with the way his life has unfolded and shared insights into the people he considers mentors, emphasizing the importance of individuals finding themselves.

The "Talking about Important Things" is organized as part of the projects under the "Russia - the Country of Opportunities" platform, established in 2018 on the president's initiative. Over the five years of the platform's existence, it has engaged 20 million people from all regions of Russia and 150 countries worldwide in its 26 projects. More than 1,500 companies, universities, state entities, and public organizations have become partners in these initiatives.

Throughout the year, Vladimir Putin regularly participates in opening new social and industrial facilities in various regions through the "Russia - the Country of Opportunities" platform. Recently, he inaugurated a highway bridge across the Yenisei River in the Krasnoyarsk region in a similar format.

Russian-language schools in Kyrgyzstan

As the Kremlin press service reported, Putin and Zhaparov will give a start to the construction of schools in Bishkek, Batken and Karakol.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin in June at a meeting with his Kyrgyz counterpart announced the start of the project to create nine schools in the republic with instruction in Russian. Then Mishustin expressed confidence that in general this new large-scale initiative will contribute to the development of education in the Russian language in Kyrgyzstan. For his part, Chairman of the Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers Akylbek Zhaparov expressed hope that the heads of state will officially launch the project on September 1.

Education in schools will be conducted entirely on a budgetary basis, with Kyrgyz teachers receiving the same salary as teachers from the Russian Federation.

The agreement on the construction of one school by the Russian side in each of the seven regions of the republic, as well as in the cities of Bishkek and Osh was reached during the visit of Sadyr Zhaparov to Moscow in February 2021. According to preliminary estimates, the average cost of building each school will be about 450 million rubles.

In 2022, Putin attended the inauguration of five Russian-language schools in Tajikistan on September 1.
