According to data from Rosstat analyzed by TASS, Chechnya recorded the highest total fertility rate (TFR) in Russia for 2024, followed by Tuva and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The lowest TFR was noted in the Leningrad region.
The nationwide total fertility rate for Russia in 2024 was 1.4 children per woman, continuing a downward trend observed since 2015. For reference, Russia's TFR was 1.78 in 2015, gradually declining to 1.41 in 2023 and reaching 1.4 in 2024.
Chechnya's fertility rate stood at an impressive 2.67, Tuva at 2.29, and Yamalo-Nenets at 1.99. In Moscow, the TFR was 1.46, and in Saint Petersburg, it was 1.25. The lowest fertility rates were recorded in Mordovia and Sevastopol (both 0.99) and the Leningrad region with 0.88.
The total fertility rate measures the average number of children a woman would bear throughout her reproductive years (ages 15 to 50) assuming the current age-specific fertility rates remain constant.
This demographic overview does not include statistical data from the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.
