Kadyrov nominated his candidacy for the election of the head of Chechnya

The acting Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov officially nominated his candidacy for the region's head of state election, the region's electoral commission announced.


On June 26, the regional chapter of the United Russia party in Chechnya nominated him for the position of a regional leader at the upcoming elections.


The Electoral Commission explained that the deadline for nominating candidates to the post of the head of the Chechen Republic is July 8. Nominated candidates should submit their registration papers to the Chechen Election Committee no later than August 4 at 18:00.


On June 23, during a meeting in a video conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin invited Kadyrov to run for a new term. On the same day, the World Congress of the Peoples of Chechnya adopted a declaration calling on him to run for the presidency.


Kadyrov has been the head of the republic since 2007. The last elections for the head of Chechnya were held on September 18, 2016, in which he received 97.56 percent of the vote.
