Kadyrov: residents of Chechnya want to be on the US sanctions list, if the head of the region is there

27 July 2020

Residents of the Chechen Republic, supporting the head of the region Ramzan Kadyrov after the introduction of restrictive measures against him by the United States, consider themselves included in the sanctions list. This was stated by Kadyrov himself on the Vesti program on the Rossiya-1 TV channel.

"Those who see me tell me: "If you and your family are on the [US] sanctions list, then we are on that list, too." They say that the Chechens  and Kadyrov were scared.  Never in our lives can we be scared and forced, " he said.

The head of Chechnya said that the US can continue to impose sanctions against him. "I ask them to come up with a thousand sanctions against me every day…If there is no case, let them come up with it, " Kadyrov added.

In Chechnya, there are flash mobs in social networks "We are Kadyrov's family" and campaigns in support of him in different regions of the Republic.

The US State Department on July 20 announced the introduction of visa sanctions against Kadyrov. They are applied in accordance with a law that prohibits entry into the United States for foreigners who are considered by the American authorities to be involved in corruption and human rights violations. In addition to the head of Chechnya, the restrictions are applied to his wife Medni Kadyrova, as well as to his daughters Aishat and Khadizhat. Kadyrov this week first invited US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo to Chechnya, and then announced sanctions against him and banned entry to the Republic.
