The first president of the Chechen Republic, Akhmad-Khadzhi Kadyrov, took responsibility for the fate of Chechnya and the North Caucasus at the risk of his life, and now the region is actively developing and guarantees people peace and tranquility, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a video message on the occasion of Akhmad Kadyrov's 70th birthday, broadcast on Monday on the Channel One Russia.

"In the 1990s Akhmad-Khadzhi, along with all of Chechnya and its people, took a difficult and dramatic path, and at the crucial moment he risked his own life to take responsibility for the future of the Chechen Republic," said the President.

He noted that "today the Chechen Republic is an integral part of our large multinational country, it is actively and dynamically developing and guarantees people peace, tranquillity and confidence in the future". "This is what Akhmad-Khadzhi strived for, what he fought for, what he gave his life for," Putin stressed.

August 23, 2021, will mark the 70th anniversary of the first president of Chechnya, Akhmad Kadyrov.

He died on May 9, 2004, in a terrorist attack at the Dynamo Stadium in Grozny. During the Victory Day celebration, an explosive device went off under the guest podium, where the republic's leader was seated. The explosion took seven lives and injured more than 60 people.
