Bashkirian authorities plan to apply for the 2030 Winter Olympics

Authorities of Bashkortostan are working on a possibility to apply for holding Winter Olympic Games 2030 after the start of the bid campaign, Diana Ikhsanova, a spokesperson for the head of the republic, told TASS on Monday.


"There is such an idea. So far the bid campaign has not started, we are working on the possibility of submitting an application," Ikhsanova said. The agency's interlocutor suggested that Ufa could become the main venue for the Games.


The desire to host the Games of 2030 was previously reported by Canadian Vancouver, American Salt Lake City and Japanese Sapporo. A joint bid of Spain, Andorra and France with the capital in Barcelona and a joint bid of Ukraine, Poland and Latvia with the capital in Lviv are also planned. The host will be named at the 140th IOC session in 2023.


Russia hosted the 2014 Winter Olympics, which were held in Sochi. Moscow hosted the 1980 Summer Olympics.


The next Winter Olympics will be held in Beijing from February 4 to 20, 2022. The Winter Olympics - 2026 will be held in Italy, Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo from February 6 to 22.
