Acting Head of Dagestan outlined the priorities of his work

Ensuring the safety of Dagestan residents, establishing a dialogue with them, as well as strengthening the economic situation are the main areas to work on, said the acting head of the region, Sergei Melikov, during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Putin on Monday resigned as regional leader Vladimir Vasilyev, appointing Melikov as Acting Head of the region.

"The first is what Vladimir Abdualievich (Vasilyev - ed.) has already talked about, and I believe this work should continue: ensuring the safety of citizens in a pandemic. Because this is not only the life and health of people but also those processes that significantly affect and have a negative impact on all spheres of activity. Therefore, the work done by the operational headquarters of the Republic of Dagestan should be continued and, perhaps, with a higher effect," Melikov said.

The second direction, he said, is strengthening of the economic potential of Dagestan. "It is really high, but, in my opinion, it is not quite in demand today, including the issues of various investment projects in the republic. And again, the work that Vladimir Abdualievich did is connected with greater investment attractiveness of Dagestan today than it was several years ago", - noted the head of Dagestan. According to him, this will eventually affect the welfare of people.

Melikov also drew attention to the need of the authorities to establish a dialogue with residents of the republic.

"In my opinion, it is very important for the Caucasus to have feedback of the leaders with all groups of the population, with all layers of society.  In this respect, I would just highlight the political aspect of activity in the republic, which will provide opportunities and understanding of those processes - political, internal political, which take place in the republic, and the solution of these problems in the interests and for the benefit of Dagestan and all  Russia", - he said.
