Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated the residents of Dagestan on the 100th anniversary of the republic, noting the historical heritage of the region and the valor of its residents in the fight against international terrorism. The telegram was published Wednesday on the Kremlin website.
"Over the centuries, Dagestan has been home to many peoples, representatives of different cultures. Their richest historical heritage, customs of hospitality and good neighborliness, love for creative work, careful attitude towards family and elders have been passed down from generation to generation," the head of state notes. - Today you cherish these spiritual and moral values, revive ancient traditions and are rightly proud of the names of outstanding countrymen - scientists, athletes, statesmen and courageous soldiers who have contributed to the annals of their land and our country."
"The best qualities of the inhabitants of the republic, their valor and fortitude were vividly demonstrated during the fight against international terrorism, when you bravely stood up to defend your native Dagestan and the whole of Russia," the presidential message stresses. The President pointed out, "Preservation of interethnic harmony and peace in the society is a solid foundation for the solution of complex tasks associated with the economic and social development of the region, the support of entrepreneurship, the creation of modern industries and jobs, the modernization of education and healthcare. - The main objective, the priority of these efforts is to improve the quality of life of people, new opportunities for each person".
The President wished Dagestan residents success, prosperity and the implementation of plans for the benefit of the country and the region.
On January 20, 1921, a decree on the formation of the Dagestan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic was passed, on May 24, 1991, the region was renamed into the Dagestan Soviet Socialist Republic, since 1993 - the Republic of Dagestan.
