11 June 2020

A team of Moscow doctors led by the chief doctor of the hospital in  Kommunarka in Moscow, Denis Protsenko, arrived in Dagestan to assist in the fight against the coronavirus infection.

The plane with Moscow doctors landed at the airport of Makhachkala. The medical team led by Denis Protsenko was met by  head of the Republic Vladimir Vasiliev,  Minister of Health of Dagestan Jamaludin Hajibragimov,  Vice-speaker of the People's Assembly (Parliament) of Dagestan Elena Elnikova and Deputy of the National Assembly, Chairman of the Republican Committee of the trade Union of medical workers Zumrud Buchaeva.

According to Protsenko, he and his colleagues brought another batch of medicines to the Republic to treat patients in the most serious condition.

"Unfortunately, that virus has the biggest problem - until there is a specific drug that could destroy it, its search continues. Therefore, in many ways, the treatment we provide is symptomatic, that is, we do not treat the cause, but the consequences - the same cytokine storm in the most severe patients. The health department handed over the next batch of medicines that we brought for this purpose, " Protsenko said.

According to him, first of all, he and his colleagues intend to meet with the first team of Moscow specialists who have been working in Dagestan for two weeks.

Protsenko does not exclude that, despite the decrease in the incidence, the number of severe patients with coronavirus infection may increase in the near future.

"We see a tendency for the epidemic to slow down and go away, however, this remains a big challenge for doctors, because the most serious patients always remain at the tail end of the epidemic... This "tail" of the epidemic is always very unpleasant for doctors - against the background of the joy of coping with the problem, we usually lose more patients at the end, because the most severe ones remain, "explained the chief doctor of Kommunarka.

Assistance from regional authorities

The head of Dagestan thanked Protsenko and his colleagues for helping the Republic and promised to provide all necessary assistance.

"You have an invaluable experience… Of course, you will be able to give invaluable advice, advice, and help our patients. We will see off the specialists who preceded you tomorrow… We are proud that they highly appreciate our doctors, their professionalism, their skills and knowledge ... We will help you with what needs to be organized, " Vasiliev said.

Earlier it was reported that six Moscow medical teams were sent to the regions of Russia to work in Dagestan, North Ossetia, Ingushetia, the Trans-Baikal territory, Vladimir and Pskov. The teams that have arrived will replace the doctors who are currently providing assistance in the regions in the fight against the coronavirus on behalf of the mayor of Moscow. Doctors of the first teams will pass information about the situation in the region to their colleagues and will return to the capital in the near future.

According to the regional operational headquarters, as of June 10 in the Republic of Dagestan, 6,175 confirmed positive results of coronavirus disease (plus 98 per day), 4,636 people recovered (plus 25 per day). 309 people with confirmed coronavirus died. 106,018 tests were conducted in the Republic, and more than 7 thousand people are in isolation.
