Commenting on the next plans of Kiev to "de-occupy the Crimea", the head of the Republic Sergey Aksenov called the reasons why the return of the Peninsula to Ukraine is impossible.
"We have been hearing similar statements from representatives of the Ukrainian authorities for more than six years. Personalities change, rhetoric-doesn't, everything is like a carbon copy. Kyiv continues to consider Crimea as the territory without the people, whose interests do not mean anything. This mindless approach caused Ukraine to lose our Peninsula first, and then the Donbass," Aksenov wrote, in particular, on his page in the VK.
Any plans for "de-occupation" born in the minds of Ukrainian "strategists", according to Aksenov, will remain "an empty talk and paper wastage for at least three reasons."
"The first is the absence of "occupation", the second is the categorical reluctance of Crimeans to be with Ukraine, and the third is the power of the Russian Armed Forces. I hope that the Foreign Ministry of the neighboring country actually understands this. If not – so much the worse for them and for Ukraine, " the head of the region wrote.
Earlier, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba said that experts of the Department have developed a strategy for" de-occupation " of the Crimea. According to him, the final format of the document has not yet been determined. The official noted that Ukraine's strategy on this issue is "playing for a long time", which implies constant monitoring of sanctions pressure regimes and the readiness of state institutions to take Crimea back "when this moment comes".
Crimea became a Russian region after a referendum held there in March 2014, in which 96.77% of the voters of the Republic of Crimea and 95.6% of the residents of Sevastopol voted for joining Russia.
Ukraine still considers Crimea its own, but temporarily occupied territory. The Russian leadership has repeatedly stated that the residents of Crimea voted for reunification with Russia in a democratic way, in full compliance with international law and the UN Charter. According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the issue of Crimea is "finally closed".
