Crimea assessed the accession of new countries to EU sanctions

25 August 2020

The leadership of countries that supported anti-Russian EU sanctions on Crimea, joined the ranks of Crimean-hating Russophobes seeking to punish the population of the Peninsula is the historical choice in favor of Russia, said the head of the working group on international legal issues at the permanent mission of the Republic of Crimea under the RF President Alexander Moloch.

According to the statement of the EU high representative for foreign and security policy Josep Borrel on behalf of the European Union, Ukraine, Georgia, Montenegro, Albania, Iceland and Norway have announced their accession to the EU anti-Russian sanctions on Crimea that are in effect until June 23, 2021.

"By their decision, they joined the host of Russophobes who hate Crimeans," Molokhov said.

According to him, this position of the six states is expected. "It is a pity only for the residents of these states, who became hostages of the unrighteous and unfair EU policy towards the population of the Crimean Peninsula, which was subjected to sanctions for its historical choice in favor of Russia," Molokhov said.

The EU Council in June decided to extend for a year the sanctions imposed in connection with the annexation of Crimea to Russia, until June 23, 2021. The EU emphasizes that it still does not recognize the annexation of Crimea to Russia.
