The resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on Crimea is the top of absurdity, Russia will not implement it because it completely contradicts the Russian Constitution and national law, Leonid Slutsky, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, said in his Telegram channel on Thursday.
"The PACE, unfortunately, remains true to double standards. The resolution adopted with calls to apply Ukrainian legislation in Crimea (on the territory of Russia!!!) is the top absurdity in the first place from a legal point of view," the deputy wrote.
According to him, "it is time for the Assembly to stop stamping decisions, which Russia will not execute due to their contradiction to the Constitution of the Russian Federation and national law." "Then perhaps the dialogue will be more constructive," summed up the head of the committee.
For his part, Vasily Piskarev, head of the Duma Commission for Investigating Foreign Interference in Russia's Internal Affairs, pointed out that the resolution demonstrates a clear disrespect for Russian justice and laws, and gross interference in Russia's domestic affairs, which is unacceptable and contrary to the aims and objectives of the PACE.
"By issuing a resolution in support of the extremist organization in Crimea, the PACE essentially joined the chorus of voices in the West justifying extremists and terrorists whose organizations have been banned in Russia, while they themselves were convicted of violating Russian law," said the deputy, whose words are quoted in the commission's Telegram channel.
The resolution passed by the PACE on Wednesday on a report by Iceland's representative Sunna Evarsdottir on the situation of Crimean Tatars argues that Russia should not apply its legislation in Crimea, including on terrorism and extremism, and recommends using the laws in force in Ukraine. The Assembly also calls for "an end to the transfer of detainees to Russian territory" and "the release of persons illegally detained or imprisoned in connection with the misuse of Russian law in Crimea". In addition, the document requires "repealing the decision to ban the activities of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People (banned in the RF)", an organization recognized as extremist in the RF.
