Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov at a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliev spoke about the need for more active use of transport and logistics opportunities of the Volga-Caspian basin for cooperation between the republics. The press service of the president of Tatarstan reported about it on Tuesday.
Rustam Minnikhanov is on a two-day working visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan, during which he met with President Ilham Aliyev.
"We should use transport and logistics opportunities of the Volga-Caspian basin more actively," the press service quotes Minnikhanov. He reminded that there is an agreement on trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation between the republics. Besides, an intergovernmental commission has been created.
Prospects for cooperation in energy and industry, automobile manufacturing, petrochemicals and gas motor fuel were mentioned at the meeting. It is noted that the Tatarstan-Azerbaijan trade turnover exceeded $70 million last year. For the first half of 2022, there has been a more than twofold growth ($60 million). "I would like to express my gratitude for your attention to the development of ties between our republics, which are aimed at strengthening relations between Russia and Azerbaijan," the press service quotes Minnikhanov.
According to the press service, Rustam Minnikhanov informed the president of Azerbaijan that he heads the Group of Strategic Vision "Russia - Islamic world" on behalf of Vladimir Putin and invited a representative of Azerbaijan to take part in the work of the Group. "In addition, the president of the republic invited the delegation of Azerbaijan to participate in the international economic summit "Russia - Islamic World: KazanSummit", the report said.
Ilham Aliyev reportedly noted the importance of historical ties. He wished the Tatarstan delegation good and productive work at the business forum.
While in Baku, Rustam Minnikhanov also met with representatives of Tatar public organizations of Azerbaijan. The program includes business meetings with representatives of the country's leadership.
