Mufti of Tatarstan Kamil Samigullin urged the clergy of the republic to reduce the time of Friday prayer to 10-15 minutes due to the threat of the coronavirus, such restrictions were in force this spring, the press service of the Religious Board of Muslims of Tatarstan told RIA Novosti.

"Unfortunately, the risk of new outbreaks and the spread of the coronavirus infection still exists. I sincerely ask you to prevent mosques from becoming the cause of this, and I call to limit Friday prayer and vagaz (khutba) to 10-15 minutes. For those who are afraid of infection, I consider it acceptable to leave the mosque after the mandatory (fard) prayer and greeting," Samigullin's appeal to muftis and imams of Tatarstan reads.

In addition, he urged the clergy and believers to strictly observe all antiviral measures. Thus, it is prohibited to enter mosques without a face mask. In addition, worshipers should only come there with their own prayer mats.

"People over 65 years of age and with weakened immunity are advised to refrain from visiting mosques,"  the Mufti of Tatarstan says.
