Minnikhanov and Patriarch Kirill Highlight Interfaith Harmony as Key to Russia's Prosperity

Rustam Minnikhanov, the Head of Tatarstan, met with Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' in Moscow today. The meeting was marked by warm greetings from both sides, with Minnikhanov expressing his delight in meeting the Patriarch once again.

 

Patriarch Kirill fondly recalled his visits to Tatarstan, particularly his participation in the Group of Strategic Vision "Russia - Islamic World" meeting in Kazan in May 2023 and his personal consecration of the reconstructed Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in July 2021. The Patriarch praised Tatarstan's development in various spheres, including the economy and social life, and highlighted the remarkable relations between the Islamic and Orthodox communities in the region.

 

"These two visits to Tatarstan were always very meaningful," - he remarked. - "One always leaves Tatarstan with a positive impression. The economy is thriving, and the social sphere of life is transforming the land. However, the most crucial aspect is the wonderful relations forming between the Islamic and Orthodox communities. Tatarstan serves as an example of how these relations should develop."

 

The Patriarch emphasized the importance of inter-religious and inter-ethnic peace for the prosperity of Russia, a country with diverse nationalities and religious representations. He expressed his wish for these harmonious relations to continue.

 

In response, Minnikhanov echoed the Patriarch's sentiments, stating, "The key to our development is indeed peace and harmony." He acknowledged the significance of the Patriarch's participation in the Strategic Vision Group meeting in 2023, which conveyed the message that Orthodoxy and Islam can promote peace. Minnikhanov noted that this message was well-received and taken seriously.

 

Looking forward, Minnikhanov extended an open invitation to the Patriarch to visit Kazan again, saying, "Your Holiness, we are waiting for you in Tatarstan at any time."
