Head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov said that he did not invite the head of Tesla and SpaceX Elon Musk to place its production in the republic, because the region has its own automobile giant.
Musk said on May 21 that Tesla could soon enter the Russian market and set up its own production facility in the country. The heads of Kaluga, Sverdlovsk, Vladimir, Rostov regions and Udmurtia suggested that Musk start investing in Russia from their regions. The Ministry of Industry and Trade, in turn, invited the businessman to Moscow to discuss the construction of the company's plant in Russia.
"You know, we have our own automobile giant - "KAMAZ", let Musk work in other places. We have Aurus. I invite you on May 31, we are launching the production of Aurus at the Elabuga site of the special (economic - ed.) zone "Alabuga"," Minnikhanov said on the air of Tina Kandelaki's "Special Guest" program on RTVI.
Serial production of Russian premium-class Aurus Senat cars will start at the plant in Elabuga (Tatarstan) on May 31. Aurus is the first Russian luxury car brand that has a limousine, sedan, minivan and SUV in its lineup. The project is codenamed "Kortezh" and is implemented by the state institute NAMI with the assistance of Vadim Shvetsov's Sollers group and the Tawazun fund from the UAE. The state's investment in the project amounted to 12.4 billion rubles. Shareholders of Aurus are FSUE NAMI (63.5%), the UAE Defense, Security and Development Fund Tawazun (36%) and Sollers (0.5%).
"KAMAZ" is the largest manufacturer of trucks in Russia. It has assembly plants in Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and India. The main shareholders of the automobile concern are the Rostec State Corporation (49,9%), Avtoinvest (23,54%) and Daimler Truck (15%). In 2020 the company's sales in the Russian market grew by 7,1% - to 32,7 thousand trucks.
