Delegates of the IX Congress of the Religious Board of Muslims (RBM) of Tatarstan have re-elected Kamil Samigullin as the republic’s mufti, TASS reports.
Samigullin, the sole candidate, was unanimously supported in an open vote.
During the congress, the mufti delivered a report on the board's work over the past term. A key highlight of the event was an exhibition showcasing RBM Tatarstan’s achievements, including a special project—a handwritten Quran. Launched in 2022 as part of the 1100th anniversary of Islam’s adoption in Volga Bulgaria, the project has now been completed, and the Quran is set for publication.
Kamil Samigullin was born on March 22, 1985, in the Krasnogorsk settlement of Mari ASSR’s Zvenigovsky district. He studied at the North Caucasus Islamic University, a madrasa in Istanbul, and the Russian Islamic Institute. Before becoming mufti, he served as an imam in mosques in Tyumen Oblast and Kazan. First elected mufti of Tatarstan on April 17, 2013, Samigullin is fluent in Arabic and Turkish.
