25 December 2020

Prayers in the mosques of Tatarstan during the New Year holidays will be held as usual, taking into account all antiviral measures, Kamil Samigullin, Mufti of the republic, told RIA Novosti.

"There will be no changes. We will work as usual: with all the precautionary measures. We will perform namaz and hold Juma (collective Friday prayers - ed.)," the Mufti said.

There are over 1,500 mosques in Tatarstan, the second highest number in Russia after Dagestan. Prayers in them are held at a social distance. In addition, believers must wear gloves and masks, as well as bring their own prayer mats. Earlier, the Religious Board of Muslims of the Republic of Tatarstan recommended its clergy to reduce the time of Friday sermons due to the pandemic.
