Tajikistan Seeks Stronger Economic Ties with Tatarstan

Tajikistan has expressed its intention to enhance economic and business relations with Tatarstan. This objective was a key focus during a meeting in Kazan between Tajikistan's delegation, led by Minister of Industry and New Technologies Sherali Kabir, and Tatarstan's Rais Rustam Minnikhanov.

 

According to the ministry of industry, the discussions explored opportunities for collaboration in trade, investment, metallurgy, mining, oil and gas, chemical industries, light and food production, pharmaceuticals, and construction. Both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening direct economic and business ties in key sectors to drive effective cooperation.

 

The meeting highlighted the significant potential for increasing bilateral trade and implementing joint investment projects. Additionally, there was mutual interest in expanding cultural and humanitarian cooperation, including partnerships in education, science, and healthcare. Tajikistan’s delegation also included Nurmukhammad Ahmadzoda, Director of the Agency for State Material Reserves.

 

Trade between Tajikistan and Russia has shown notable growth, with a 19.1% increase over the first ten months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, reaching $1.618 billion. In 2023, bilateral trade hit a historic high of $1.7 billion. Currently, 70 Russian regions maintain trade and economic relations with Tajikistan, with Tatarstan ranking among the most active participants.
