Tatarstan to Build Hydrogen Power Plant Worth 500 Billion Rubles

15 April

Tatarstan plans to construct a hydrogen-producing nuclear energy technology station (AETS) worth 500 billion rubles in the Mendeleevsk district, according to district head Radmir Belyaev. The facility is expected to become a key resident of the new special economic zone (SEZ) "Alabuga-Mendeleevsk."

"Two anchor residents currently planned for the Alabuga-Mendeleevsk SEZ are 'Ammoniy-2' and a hydrogen station developed jointly with Rosatom, a project we are working on together with the republic’s Ministry of Industry and Trade," Belyaev said during the "Municipal Hour" project at the republic’s Investment Development Agency.

He noted that investment in the hydrogen facility is estimated at 500 billion rubles. A working group has already been set up in collaboration with Rosatom to develop the project.

In February 2023, Vitaly Petrunin, First Deputy General Director of OKBM Afrikantov (part of Rosatom), announced at a board meeting of Tatneftekhiminvest-Holding that Rosatom aims to launch the AETS in 2035. At the time, Tatarstan was identified as a potential location for the project.
