Rustam Minnikhanov plans to run for the post of President of Tatarstan, TASS reports with reference to the press service of the President, who held a meeting with activists of the Republican public movement " Yardәm yәnәshә! Help is near!".
On May 20, during a working meeting in the conference mode, Russian President Vladimir Putin supported Minnikhanov's candidacy for the post of head of the Republic for the next term.
"The President of Russia Vladimir Putin gave a high assessment to the work done in the Republic work. This is not only my merit - it is the merit of many people. Including those who worked before us and laid down a powerful potential for further development. Thank you for your trust. I am ready for any challenges," the press service quotes Minnikhanov as saying.
Tatarstan presidential elections are due to be held in Autumn 2020.
Movement "Yardәm yәnәshә! Help is near! " was organized to unite the efforts of businesses, public organizations, citizens and authorities aimed at helping residents of Tatarstan who find themselves in a difficult life situation. About 60 thousand people participate in this work, including volunteers, philanthropists, heads of NGOs, heads of large enterprises, representatives of small businesses and concerned residents of the region.
On February 4, 2010, the State Council unanimously approved Rustam Minnikhanov as President of the Republic of Tatarstan. The inauguration ceremony took place on March 25 of the same year. On March 24, 2015, due to the expiration of the term of office of Rustam Minnikhanov, Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed him acting head of the Republic. On the single day of voting on September 13, 2015, Rustam Minnikhanov won the presidential election (he was nominated by the United Russia party), gaining 94.4% of the vote. His closest rival, Communist party candidate Hafiz Mirgalimov, received 2.56%. On September 18 of the same year, Rustam Minnikhanov officially took office.
