UNESCO World Heritage Committee to hold its 45th session in 2022 in Kazan

The World Heritage Committee will hold its 45th session in Kazan in 2022, Grigory Ordzhonikidze, Executive Secretary of the Russian Federation Commission for UNESCO, told TASS on Monday.

 

"On March 29, at the 15th extraordinary session of the World Heritage Committee, an official decision was made to hold the next 45th session of the Committee in 2022 in the Russian Federation in Kazan," he said.

 

According to Ordzhonikidze, the session will be dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the 1972 Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage. "The event will also host the Forum of World Heritage Site Managers, the Youth Model and the children's shift in the All-Russian Children Center "Orlyonok" ("Eaglet). In addition, in St. Petersburg on the basis of the Mountain University the World Heritage Youth Forum will be held", he added.

 

The unifying theme of the planned activities is "Intercultural dialogue as an imperative for the World Heritage".

 

It is expected that the event will be attended by about 4 thousand delegates, including ministers of culture, education and ecology, as well as professional non-governmental organizations ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites) and IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources).
