04 June

Rustam Minnikhanov, the Head of Tatarstan, alongside Alexey Russkikh, the Governor of the Ulyanovsk region, inaugurated the "Laili-Jamal" mosque, the largest in Ulyanovsk. According to a statement released by the regional government's press service, the mosque's design is inspired by the renowned "Kul Sharif" mosque in Kazan.

The new mosque boasts a capacity of one thousand worshippers and spans an impressive 1,860 square meters. Future plans for the adjacent territory include the development of a Muslim complex, which will feature a madrasa (Muslim educational school), a Center for the Quran Study, a halal cafe, and a nikah center.

Governor Russkikh emphasized the collaborative effort that went into the mosque's construction, stating that it was built "in the atmosphere of brotherhood, friendship, and creation." He added, "The Laili-Jamal mosque will serve as a hub for spirituality, education, and communication among parishioners. It symbolizes the reinforcement of Russia's traditional values, which promote mercy, compassion, and justice."

Minnikhanov, described the mosque's opening as a significant celebration not only for Muslims but for the entire community. "Today marks a momentous occasion for Ulyanovsk and all Muslims. Moreover, our Orthodox brothers are here with us, highlighting the importance of this event for our multinational country," Minnikhanov stated, as quoted in the message from the Ulyanovsk region's government.

The mosque's minarets, dome completion, interior decoration, and landscaping were made possible through charitable donations from Muslims across the Ulyanovsk region and throughout the country. Ildar Hajji Safiullin, the chairman of the Regional Religious Board of Muslims of the Ulyanovsk region, noted that "Laili-Jamal" will be the only mosque in the region with a capacity of up to a thousand people, holding the status of a Cathedral mosque and hosting events at both regional and federal levels.
