Aliyev Approves Agreement with Russia on Freight Transit Along North-South Corridor

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has ratified an intergovernmental agreement with Russia aimed at boosting cooperation for the development of freight transit along the North-South international transport corridor (ITC). The corresponding decree was published on the president's official website.

 

Under the agreement, Azerbaijan's Ministry of Digital Development and Transportation will oversee its implementation.

 

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan has been instructed to notify Russia that all domestic legal procedures required for the agreement to take effect have been completed.

 

The agreement was signed on December 21, 2024, in Moscow.

 

According to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Digital Development and Transportation, the agreement outlines cooperation terms for enhancing railway infrastructure and transit services. Its primary goal is to improve transportation efficiency and maximize the potential of the western route of the North-South corridor. The ministry emphasized that the agreement will promote growth in rail freight volumes while ensuring infrastructure development keeps pace with rising demand.
