Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev discussed with Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk on Friday the development of economic cooperation between the two countries and the activities of a trilateral working group to unblock transport communications in the South Caucasus. This was reported on the website of the Azerbaijani leader.
"At the meeting it was stressed that the bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation are successfully developing in all spheres, the growth of trade turnover was especially noted. It was pointed out that there is a good potential for further expansion of economic cooperation," the report said. There was also an exchange of views on the prospects of development of bilateral relations.
The report also says that during the conversation "the activities of Russian-Azerbaijani-Armenian tripartite commission at the level of deputy prime ministers were touched upon, issues related to the opening of communications were discussed."
According to the Government of Azerbaijan, the trade turnover between the two countries in the first 10 months of 2021 increased by 7%, to $2.35 billion. In 2020, the trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia amounted to $2.671 billion.
On January 11, 2021, the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia at a meeting in Moscow agreed to establish a working group at the level of deputy prime ministers of the three countries, which will focus on establishment of transport and economic relations in the region.
