Preliminary agreements on building a second and third nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan have already been reached, the republic’s ambassador to Russia, Dauren Abayev, said.
“Just about two weeks ago, construction of a nuclear power plant in Almaty Region was launched. It has been stated more than once that a second and a third are needed. Preliminary agreements are in place,” he said.
On September 8, Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev—who previously said the country needs three nuclear plants—advised that planning for the second and third stations “should begin today.”
