Burkina Faso is keen to deepen cooperation with Russia in mining and combating terrorism, Burkina Faso’s Ambassador to Russia, Aristide Tapsoba, told TASS on the sidelines of the Technoprom forum.
“Regarding terrorism, as you know, the Sahel Alliance countries—Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso—have been facing this challenge for over a decade. Within our partnership with Russia, we have decided to unite our armed forces, so Russia can support us with equipment to fight terrorism. We therefore hope the Russian side will help strengthen our counterterrorism efforts,” he said.
When asked about interest in cooperation in mining, the ambassador noted that many Russian companies are already active in Burkina Faso’s mining sector.
“We have Nordgold operating in Bissa (a mine), and other companies have applied for gold mining permits. So I believe our mining cooperation, especially in gold, with Russia is developing well,” Tapsoba said.
He emphasized that experts from Russia’s Novosibirsk region—including doctors, scientists and geologists—could collaborate not only with Burkina Faso but across Africa.
“That’s why a ministerial delegation from Ghana and Burkina Faso is here today, aiming to expand our activities in all areas,” he added.
