Futuristic ski resort to be built in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud has unveiled a project to build a futuristic mountain tourism resort in the kingdom, TROJENA, this was reported on Thursday by the Riyadh Daily.


According to Mohammed bin Salman, who serves as the country's first deputy prime minister and defense minister, it is a new global destination that is part of the plan and strategy of the innovative NEOM city of the future to develop tourism. "TROJENA, which combines the principles of ecotourism and innovative technology, will completely change the idea of mountain tourism in the world through exceptional design, advanced architecture and technology that integrates reality with the virtual world," he said. - "The unique architecture of the resort is based on the breathtaking scenery of the Neom mountains".


The highlight of the resort, which will be located 50 km from the Gulf of Aqaba, will be the ski tracks - the mountain range with an altitude difference from 1,500 to 2,600 m stretches for 60 km. In the winter, the temperature drops there below zero and the snow falls, allowing fans of active recreation enjoy skiing and snowboarding in the open air on the slopes of varying difficulty. Moreover, throughout the year, temperatures in TROJENA are on average 10 degrees lower than in other regions of the country.


All this, the Crown Prince noted, is combined with diving in the Red Sea, biking along the golden sand dunes, and mountain climbing along the mountain ranges. There, on the artificial lake offers ample opportunities for water sports, yoga retreats, Ironman triathlon competitions, all kinds of music and cultural festivals. Infrastructure for skating and mountain biking is being created.


The project is planned to be completed by 2026. By that time there will be a ski village, family and health resorts, and an interactive nature reserve. Authorities plan to attract 700,000 tourists and 7,000 permanent residents to TROJENA by 2030.


According to Mohammed bin Salman, the number of tourists to the kingdom has increased from 6 million in 2016 to 17.5 million in 2019.


City of the Future Neom


A project to create a metropolis of the future in the desert with an investment potential of more than $500 billion was announced in 2017. The project is part of the kingdom's Vision 2030 strategic plan to develop alternative industries. Neom, which is a word derived from "NEO" ("new") and "M" as the first letter of the Arabic word "mustaqbal" ("future"), is being built on an area of 26,500 square kilometers in Tabuk Province on the coast of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba in the border area with Egypt and Jordan.


Megacity will be fully provided only with solar and wind energy and will be a technological hub for Asia and Africa. It is also planned to implement a large-scale project to develop 50 desert islands and turn them into luxury Red Sea resorts that will spread out on the sandy beaches of more than 300 km. The project Neom  implemented by the Crown Prince involves investing $1 billion in a meta-village to serve residents and visitors and a platform to protect the personal data of users.
