The value of foreign trade turnover of the Urals Federal District (UFD) with the Republic of Tajikistan in the first half of 2022 exceeded $70 million, compared to the same period last year, imports increased by 125%. Among the main goods are food and raw materials for its production, the press service of the Ural Customs Administration said on Monday.

"The value of the UFD's foreign trade turnover with the Republic of Tajikistan exceeded $70 million in the first half of the year. Compared with last year, the volume of imports increased by 125%," the report said.

The department notes that the main product range of imports from Tajikistan are food products and raw materials for their production: apricots, cherries and sweet cherries, peaches, grapes, mixed nuts, carrots, turnips, beets and peanuts. Ural enterprises export equipment, vehicles, metals and metal products, food products and raw materials for their production, products of chemical industry and rubber to the republic.

"In the first half of the year, the customs authorities of the Urals and the consulate general of the Republic of Tajikistan in Yekaterinburg have taken a number of measures that contribute to the development of the Russia-Tajikistan interregional cooperation. These include the simplification of customs clearance procedures for agricultural products, the creation of official sources of information about the export prices of Tajik fruit and vegetable products, and the harmonization of the parties' positions on the formation of its customs value. However, given the volume of domestic production of agricultural products in Tajikistan, the republic's export potential allows it to supply larger volumes of fruits and vegetables to Russia," said Alexei Frolov, head of the Ural Customs Department.

According to the data provided by the Tajikistan consulate general in Yekaterinburg, the total volume of trade between the Sverdlovsk region and Tajikistan in 2021 amounted to $50 million, with imports from Tajikistan accounting for $23,000 mainly for fruit and vegetable products. In July this year, a Tajik delegation visited Yekaterinburg, it was reported that the republic is interested in increasing exports of fruits and vegetables, and the Khatlon region is ready to conclude a cooperation agreement.
