Indonesia plans to increase its coffee and tea exports to Russia beyond the current $115 million a year, with a forthcoming free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) expected to help, Indonesia’s ambassador to Moscow, Jose Antonio Morato Tavares, told RIA Novosti.
“Yes, we plan to do that,” he said on the sidelines of celebrations in Moscow marking the 80th anniversary of Indonesia’s independence. “Right now, we export about $115 million worth of coffee and tea to Russia annually.”
He added that a free trade deal between Indonesia and the EAEU could give exports a further lift. “We hope that $115 million figure for Indonesian exports will also grow,” the ambassador emphasized.
Indonesia’s Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs said in June that Jakarta and the EAEU officially concluded negotiations on a free trade agreement on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, with signing expected by the end of 2025.
