Iran and Russia are working on establishing a confidential financial messaging channel to eliminate the need for the SWIFT system, according to Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali.
"The current state of banking and currency cooperation has significantly improved. We are actively working on a confidential financial messaging channel to completely bypass SWIFT. I can confidently call 2025 the year of resolving financial issues in Russian-Iranian relations," Jalali stated during an interview on IRIB television.
Earlier, a representative of the Central Bank of Iran, Mostafa Ghamari Vafa, revealed that Central Bank Governor Mohammad Reza Farzin traveled to Moscow to expedite certain aspects of an agreement with the Bank of Russia. Farzin will also join the delegation of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who is set to visit Russia on January 17 to sign the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement.
The agreement marks a significant milestone in Russian-Iranian relations. Officials from both countries emphasize that the pact encompasses all areas of bilateral cooperation, paving the way for new opportunities in defense, counter-terrorism, energy, finance, transportation, industry, agriculture, culture, science, and technology.
