Iran has expressed readiness to launch a pilot project with Russia on the mutual recognition of electronic digital signatures, a significant step towards simplifying cross-border trade and logistics. The initiative was discussed at a meeting of the Russian-Iranian working group on electronic document management, held on the sidelines of the International Caspian Digital Forum.
According to Natalia Zadonskaya, Deputy Head of the Department for International Projects and Digitalization at Russia's International Transport Corridors Directorate, Iranian officials also demonstrated their digital transport and logistics platform and expressed willingness to integrate it with a similar Russian system under development.
"The most important development is that representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran stated their desire to conduct a pilot project with the Russian Federation on the mutual recognition of electronic digital signatures," Zadonskaya stated. "In this case, Russia is the first and only country to which the Islamic Republic of Iran has made such a proposal."
She emphasized the mutual interest in advancing the recognition of digital signatures and combining the two nations' digital platforms, calling the progress at the forum highly satisfactory.
This move to deepen digital cooperation comes during a landmark year for bilateral relations. In January, the two countries signed a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty, which entered into force on October 2. Furthermore, a free trade agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Iran took effect on May 15, unlocking new opportunities for businesses. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has previously assured Russian leader Vladimir Putin that he is personally overseeing the removal of all barriers to expanding cooperation with Moscow.
