Iran is ready to carry out barter deals with Russia to exchange steel products for auto parts and gas turbines. This was reported on Thursday evening by Press TV channel with reference to Iranian Minister of Trade, Industry and Mining Seyyed Reza Fatemi Amin.

The minister said on the sidelines of the meeting of the Russia-Iran intergovernmental commission that the Islamic republic will use barter arrangements with Russia to obtain raw materials needed in the metallurgical and mining industries. The country needs zinc, aluminum, lead, and steel, the supplies of which will be possible under the barter scheme.

Amin noted that Iran will be able to supply Russia with auto parts and gas turbines in exchange for Russian steel. According to him, the sides have also agreed on the supply of components or repair of turbines operating at Russian power plants. In addition, he noted that during the meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission the countries agreed to work out options for barter deals on a number of commodities and raw materials.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak paid an official visit to Iran on May 25. He took part in the Iran-Russia trade forum and the meeting of the intergovernmental commission of Russia and Iran, which resulted in the agreements on the development of trade and economic relations between the countries, including in the energy and banking sectors.
