Iran sees the prospect of expanding trade with Russia through the export of auto parts, construction materials and medical tourism services. This was reported to TASS on Wednesday by the attaché for trade and economic cooperation of the embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Russian Federation, Iraj Zarei.
"In terms of exports, Iran has potential for the Russian Federation in the production of auto parts, construction materials, ceramic tiles, jewelry and others. Accordingly, the Russian Federation has opportunities in the industrial sector. <...> We can be a successful host in the field of medical tourism. <...> Our level of medical science is very high. Iran is one of five countries that have produced their own vaccine against coronavirus, like the Russian Federation. <...> The most complicated clinical operations are carried out in Iran, and people come from many neighboring countries to perform operations for the reason that these services are much cheaper in Iran," he said.
As for car components, Iranian car companies recently participated in two auto industry exhibitions in Moscow. "In turn, automakers in St. Petersburg, too, could participate in Iranian trade fairs and could take advantage of the cheap but skilled labor in Iran. St. Petersburg should not only think about its own consumption, it is at the same time a window to Europe, such cooperation could be continued for the benefit of both countries," said Zarei.
According to his data, the trade turnover between Russia and Iran in 2020 was $2.2 billion, of which Russia's exports to Iran were $1.4 billion and Iran's exports to Russia were $800 million.
