Iran and Russia will sign an agreement to establish a joint shipping consortium on the Caspian Sea within the next month, following successful negotiations held in Makhachkala. Saeid Rasouli, Vice-Minister for Roads and Urban Development of Iran and Head of Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization, confirmed this timeline to TASS.
"The meeting in Makhachkala on November 6-7 brought together representatives from Iran's Ports and Maritime Organization, Russia's Rosmorrechflot, and private businesses. We achieved very positive outcomes, including an agreement to prepare and sign the maritime consortium document within one month," Rasouli stated.
He explained that the agreement will cover both maritime cargo transportation—with a target volume of 5 million tons—and the development of Caspian Sea tourism.
Earlier, Andrey Tarasenko, Head of Rosmorrechflot, noted that the Makhachkala talks addressed launching a regular container line between Makhachkala and Iranian ports. He added that details are currently being finalized, including the exchange of information about potential consortium participants from both sides and their respective authorities.
