Over 40% of the Russian and Iranian commodity turnover is carried out in rubles, and Russian currency may become the main one in the bilateral trade relations. Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali said this on Wednesday at a press conference at the diplomatic mission's residence.
"We believe that the ruble can become the main currency to use in our trade and economic relations," the diplomat said. - "Now more than 40 percent of the volume of trade turnover between our countries is done using the ruble."
He pointed out that Tehran also supported the idea of using the ruble as the main currency in regional integration unions such as the EEU.
According to Jalali, financial and economic cooperation between Russia and Iran is going in different directions, one of which is the integration of national payment systems Mir and Shetab. "Another issue that is a matter of common opinion between our leaders, among many others, is that we should make efforts to reduce the dominance of some currencies, including the dollar, in our trade and economic relations. Therefore, the use of our national currencies in mutual settlements is a principle that we are making efforts to develop," the Iranian ambassador concluded.
