Iranian Ambassador in Moscow Says Country Looking to Start Gas Imports from Russia Soon

25 August

Iran is hoping to begin importing Russian gas via Azerbaijan in the near future, with nearly all issues with Gazprom now resolved, Iran’s Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali told TASS in an interview.

“We hope it will happen soon. We are currently in discussions with Gazprom, and almost every issue has been settled. The only thing left is to agree on price. If that’s resolved, everything can move forward,” Jalali said in response to a question.

Earlier, Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev said during the 18th session of the Russia-Iran intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation that the first deliveries of Russian gas using existing infrastructure through Azerbaijan are expected to begin as early as 2025, with volumes up to 1.8 billion cubic meters per year.
